Raidió Corca Baiscinn’s Sports Show, broadcast every Monday evening 6-7pm, has won a Merit Award at the CRAOL Community Radio Achievement Awards in the Sports Category.
The Sports Show is hosted by volunteer broadcasters Niomh Madigan, Des Crowe, Paul Kenny, Paddy Collins, John O’Neill and produced by Derrick Lynch, with Kevin Cunningham working the sound desk. Regular contributors are: Andy Jones – Kilrush Rugby Club, Robert Clancy – Local Soccer, James Sexton – Athletics, and Michael Considine and Joe Garry – GAA.
The show prides itself on covering a wide range of sports such as GAA, athletics, rugby, soccer, currach racing and golf. It has, however, carved out a particular niche in broadcasting live match commentaries and analysis from football matches in West Clare, both men’s and women’s, which have been widely welcomed by sports fans not able to get to the matches.
CRAOL is the national body representing all community radio stations across Ireland. There are 20 fully licensed community radio stations in the Republic of Ireland and many more stations at different stages of progressing towards a full licence.
Raidió Corca Baiscinn broadcasts on 92.5 & 94.8FM, 2-9pm Monday – Friday and 2 – 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Tune in to hear local people presenting programmes with a local slant, but widespread appeal.
