Saturday 3rd December is the UN International Day of People with Disabilities, and to celebrate this, Raidió Corca Baiscinn will be broadcasting two special programmes.
At 2.30pm, Aine Mae O’Mahoney’s programme “Body Image” takes a look at fitness for people with disabilities. In the studio Aine Mae chats to Dermot Hayes former chairman of Persons With Disabilities Ireland. He chats about the importance of keeping fit, with reference to having a disability from the age of 14 and how at the age of 57 he loves to keep fit.
Dermot and Aine Mae also examine the recent cuts at the Irish Wheelchair Association, resulting in cuts to the hours that Personal Assistants are available to disabled people, particularly the fact that the cuts are reducing the hours for sociable activities such as going to gym, walks, etc.
Chatting via telephone is James Murrihy of Clare Sports Partnership.
He chats about events taking place at various centres in Clare to encourage more disabled people to become more active and take up some form of physical activity. There is a list of programming on events over the 2 days including one on one training sessions and swimming, aquarobics etc. James Murrihy can be contacted for more information on 065 686 5434.
From 3 – 4pm, some of our regular presenters from Enable Ireland will be broadcasting a special chat show.
